Susan Gainey is a Senior Associate at our firm. She was born in Tampa, Florida, and raised in Lehigh Acres, Florida and Evansville, Indiana. After receiving an undergraduate degree from Indiana University in 1995, she was awarded her Juris Doctorate with Honors from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1999. At Valparaiso Law, Susan served as President of the Women’s Law Student Association and Treasurer of the Equal Justice Alliance. Susan studied at Cambridge, England in the summer 1997 where instruction included a course taught by US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Susan obtained her Masters of Law, Magna Cum Laude, in August 2008 from Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis.
Susan practiced law in Indiana for 20 years before returning to her home state. She was active in numerous bar associations during her practice in Indiana, where she often served in a leadership role. Susan has served in the following leadership roles: Executive Committee of the Indianapolis Bar Association Women in Law; Executive Committee of the Indiana State Bar Association Women in Law; American Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division, Governing Council; Indiana State Bar Association, Young Lawyers Council; Chairperson, Indiana Supreme Court Commission on Continuing Legal Education; Chairperson, Evansville Bar Association Women in Law Committee; Board of Directors, Evansville Bar Association; Chairperson, Evansville Bar Association Continuing Legal Education Committee; and Board of Directors, Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana.
Susan is also active in many community organizations, including Big Brothers, Big Sisters and volunteering for several homeless shelters, child advocacy organizations and animal welfare organizations. She was the founder of a no-kill animal rescue in Evansville and founder of a non-profit which supports disadvantaged children in Kenya, Africa.
Susan is admitted to practice before the Florida Supreme Court, the Indiana Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
